MON, FEB 2 – WTF* LOCAL FOOD FILM & MEDIA SERIES … Starting in February, we’ll host a monthly media showing of the deeply significant and often alarming issues facing our modern food culture. Location TBA. *WTF = We Trust (our) Farmers.

SAT, MAR 14 – FARM TOUR & WORKSHOP AT ADDERSON’S FRESH PRODUCE … One of the CSRA’s most beloved organic farms is planning an educational farm tour and workshop in mid-March, and Augusta Locally Grown will be helping! SAT, APR 25 – BENDERDINKER! Yep, we’ll need a hundred volunteers for this one too!!!!!!!!!!

It’s all about good food and clean fun!
Cheers!
Kim

Joyful Noise Acres Farm:  The market is open for ordering.

Good morning,
The on-line market is open for ordering. Being in the depths of winter, you will notice that vegetable selection is limited. Even my garden took a hit this week but will recover when the temperatures climb back up. Egg production definately dropped with the cold snap so please limit egg orders to 2 dozen this week so that we can spread the egg love around.
Georgia Farm to Table continues to bring a nice selection of vegatables to the market and Amestory Farm still has some winter squashes available.
Farm Fresh Foods has been working with fresh grains and gluten free options. We now have 2 sources of gluten free, Farm Fresh Foods and Snack N Joy. They both brought some fantastic treats last week for us to sample that many of you were able to enjoy.
We are blessed to have wonderful artisans and farmers to feed us.
So, happy shopping and see you Wednesday.
Mary Beth

Champaign, OH:  Heartfelt Thanks and Love!

I open the market, tonight, feeling so thankful to my managers, Charlene and Mark, to all of you very understanding customers, and to the amazing help from the YMCA.

This morning found me totally knocked out with whatever is going around. I was sick, last week, thought I had gotten better, but not so much.

Mark and Charlene took the market, and my Cosmic customers were beyond understanding! I love that we can all rely on one another at our little local market. It took a bit of the stress out of being sick.

I am opening the market and drifting off to sleep. Stay warm, stay safe, and stay well…you can accomplish all of this with the ease of ordering from the market!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Recipes: Buffalo Con Queso and Buffalo Joes

It was so much fun having Shalley and David at the market on Tuesday as our Farmer of the Day! Many of you requested the dip recipe. Here it is and another one for Buffalo Joes (Sloppy Joes):

Carrell Farms’ Buffalo Con Queso Dip

Shalley brings this yummy dip to family functions (by popular demand), and always has a big pot of it going at their farm parties. Kids go crazy for it!

Make a triple batch for a gathering and freeze leftovers, if you happen to have any.

Source: This recipe came to me from my mother-in-law, Gail Carrell. I substituted water buffalo

for beef and renamed it.

Ingredients:
1 pound Carrell Farms premium ground water buffalo
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
8 oz. tomato sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
3/4 tsp. fresh oregano
1 tsp. sugar or honey (optional)
8 oz. cream cheese
1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
4 T cooking oil (coconut, olive, etc.)
Tortilla chips/veggie sticks

1. Saute onion and garlic in oil over medium heat until soft. Add ground water buffalo meat and cook until just brown.

2. Reduce heat to low, stir in remaining ingredients until smooth and warmed through. Keep warm in a crock pot if desired.

3. Serve with tortilla chips or veggie sticks.

Carrell Farms’ Buffalo Joes

We made a huge batch of this for last year’s annual Labor Day farm open house/party for something different

than burgers. It was a huge hit!

Source: This is a recipe I found on the internet a long time ago — not sure who to credit.

Serves: 4

Ingredients:

1 pound Carrell Farms’ water buffalo ground
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1/4 cup bell pepper, chopped
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. yellow mustard
3/4 cup ketchup
1 Tbl brown sugar (optional)
Sea salt & freshly ground black pepper
2 or 3 TBS coconut, butter, or olive oil

Step by Step Instructions

1. Saute onions and bell peppers in oil over medium heat until slightly soft. Add ground buffalo and cook until just brown.

2. Add remaining ingredients and simmer on low for 30 minutes.

3. Serve on a roll or bun of your choice.

Enjoy!

HARD FREEZE HURT CROPS…Sharing this message from one of the BEST growers to show how hard our farmers work and the RISKS they take in bringing fresh, local produce to our community each season…
“I lost turnips and broccoli and siberian kale on the first night (Jan. 7) but last night (Jan. 8) hit me even harder all 300 heads of lettuce, cauliflower, radishes – GONE – I will not know about cabbage for a couple days i am hoping that some of the younger leaf lettuce will rebound and maybe some of the broccoli will produce side shoots in a week the only thing I can promise for next week is vates curly kale -5 and butternut-5 hopefully warmer weather will bring out collards young cabbage and younger broccoli. Thats what you call taking a hard punch! I will start replanting tomorrow and cutting back lettuce.” So VERY GRATEFUL for our HARD WORKING growers!

CASABLANCA RANCH- LOCAL GRASS FED, GRASS FINISHED BEEF
“Locally raised in Abbeville, AL. Grass Fed and Grass Finished. Our cattle are never given hormones, any type of steroids or growth enhancing medications.
