Spa City Local Farm Market Co-op:  MMF not this market

Mountain Meadows Farm will not be delivering to the Spa City Coop on Friday, April 17.

The Wednesday Market:  The Market Is Open!

Good evening.

The Wednesday Market is open for orders. Please place your order by Monday at 10 p.m. Orders are ready for pick up Wednesday between 3 and 6 p.m. Be sure to visit the website for all of this week’s product listings. Here is the link: http://wednesdaymarket.locallygrown.net/market

Concord Street Sweets is taking a bit of time away from The Wednesday Market for a family celebration. My niece, Jessica Lindsey, oldest daughter of my sister Sharon, is getting married on Saturday, April 18. Jessica is the first grandchild in our family to get married, and our whole family is involved in orchestrating the celebration.

I am catering the cocktail party and meal (Chicken Marsala for 150 people!). My sister Teresa is doing all of the bouquets, boutonnieres, decorations and centerpieces. Sharon, mother of the bride and a baker extraordinaire, is making the bride’s cake and groom’s cake, and is setting out a dessert buffet of the most spectacular confections. The bride and her attendants will be beautifully coiffed and their complexions perfected by Kimberly, our sister who is a master cosmetologist. Wedding memories will be preserved with videography by our brother Jeremy. And the rest of the family – well, we’re just trying not to go crazy through it all.

Needless to say, we have A LOT OF WORK to do this week! Here is a sweet poem/recipe, in honor of brides this wedding season.

A Good Wedding Cake
Author Unknown

4 lb. of love
1 lb. butter of youth
1/2 lb. of good looks
1 lb. sweet temper
1 lb. of blindness for faults
1 lb. of self forgetfulness
1 lb. of pounded wit
1 lb. of good humour
2 tablespoons of sweet argument
1 pint of rippling laughter
1 wine glass of common sense
1 oz. modesty

Put the love, good looks and sweet temper into a well furnished house. Beat the butter of youth to a cream, and mix well together with the blindness of faults. Stir the pounded wit and good humour into the sweet argument, and then add the rippling laughter and common sense. Work the whole together until everything is well mixed, and bake gently for ever.

Thank you for your support of locally grown agriculture and for choosing to purchase locally. We appreciate your patronage and look forward to seeing you Wednesday at The Market.

Thanks,
Beverly

White River Creamery is back! Check out the great selection of cheese available under the Dairy section. Here is some information about the family and their farm:

White River Creamery is a family run farmstead dairy and creamery. They have 90 Nigerian Dwarf goats on 12 acres of pasture in Elkins, Arkansas. The cow milk comes from a local dairy that is certified hormone free and antibiotic free. The dairy is located just 20 minutes outside of Fayetteville across from the White River.

Scott trained at Vermont Institute of Artisan Cheese where he completed basic and advanced cheese making courses. Tessa and their three daughters, Amber, Caily, and Emily, did an internship in Vermont and learned goat health and husbandry. They started building the herd and dairy in 2011 and passed the final inspection in May of 2013.

Nigerian Dwarfs have the highest butterfat of any dairy goat, which gives a rich and creamy milk and amazing cheese. Their herd is managed organically and their health and quality of milk is the family’s top priority. They milk the goats twice a day. The bucks are kept in a private pen from the does, which keeps the milk from having any “goaty” flavor. They have a closed herd of registered Nigerians with many ADGA Champions, recognized Superior Genetics, and Top Ten milk producers. They are a permitted dairy and creamery:

Farm #10747
Milk Manufacturing Permit #W-56
Dairy Plant License #CP0006

Welcome back White River Creamery! We are glad to have you with us again.

Remember to stock up on your favorite items from Create 4 Good as Melissa is taking a break from the market this year.

Mica Parks, owner of Greener Pastures Products, will also be taking a break for at least the first session of market this year. Now is the time to stock up on all your favorite hand made goat milk soaps & scrubs.

The market is fully stocked with baked goods, jams and jellies, pastured meats, farm fresh eggs (LOTS of eggs!), beautiful, fresh produce and flowers, hand crafted dolls, knitted scarves and more!

The new edition of Edibles Ozarkansas is out – you can pick up your copy at the market pick up location, the Main Street Office, and local businesses in town. If you see an issue of Food & Farm, by Arkansas Grown, check that out too! They are both awesome publications!

Have a great week!

South Cumberland Farmer's Market:  Software Glitch?

Apologies to our customers and growers. I did, indeed, open the market just before 5 p.m. Obviously, there was some kind of software glitch, and y’all didn’t receive it. So I sent it out again, and this time it worked. Happy ordering!

PORK SPECIAL FROM FOUNTAIN SPRINGS FARM
Again this week on the market is our ground pork and sausage special. They are both listed at FIVE 1-lb. packages for $20.00. That’s just $4.00 per pound for NON-GMO-fed, pasture-raised pork! Order them before they’re gone!

Also we have the Turkey Deposits on the market for people to order for Thanksgiving.
-———————————————————————————————————————————————————-
FROM DOGWOOD VALLEY GREENHOUSE
This strange spring weather continues, resulting in all the spring perennials blooming at the same time. The woodland and sun phlox, columbine, coreopsis, vinca, and catchfly are still glorious. Joining them in bloom this week are the astilbes, early carnations, Sweet Williams (dianthus), Foam Flower & Jacob’s Ladder, as well as a few early azaleas. We also have lots of different herbs and several nice varieties of hanging baskets. You can definitely set these perennials in your garden now, although I would wait a couple more weeks to add any annuals you might want.

We will soon have tomato and pepper plants in several varieties. It’s a bit early to plant them now, but you are welcome to email me at tnhomeschooler@yahoo.com for a list of varieties and to reserve your vegetable plants.
-———————————————————————————————————————————————————-
GROUND BEEF SPRING SPECIAL FROM DOUBLE A FARM
For a limited time only, we are offering lean ground beef in a bulk package of 5.5+ pounds for $27.45. That’s $4.99 per pound! You get the same great beef but at a better “limited time” price!!
-———————————————————————————————————————————————————-
BROWN’S HOLLAR CREATIONS will be bringing extra eggs this week to the market. They will be in the cooler and you may leave your money there in the envelope.

SANDSPUR FARMS + OCHEESEE CREAMERY
Thanks Jennifer of SANDSPUR Farms for Teaming Up with Ocheesee Creamery to deliver Local, Grass Fed Milk & Milk Products to Market At Dothan! The following information is from Ocheesee’s website:
" We’re a small, three-generation dairy in Calhoun County, Florida, and we’re bringing back the healthy goodness of whole milk and other dairy items. When you taste the difference and see the healthy benefits of milk items that come from grass-happy cows, you’ll be enjoying whole milk items again and will know that you’ve made the healthy choice. That’s right, we’re stepping back to a time when cows grazed on pasture land, like it used to be, and they got all the benefits of the fresh air, the sunlight, and pastures full of fresh green grass. Studies show that cows that are allowed a primary diet of fresh grass produce milk with five times as much unsaturated fat than cows fed processed grains. That’s really good news for people who want the benefits of whole milk but need to reduce their “bad” cholesterol counts. Most dairy items in the U.S. come almost exclusively from cows that are fed hay and grains from feed lots, and so whole milk has gotten a bad reputation due to the saturated fat and cholesterol levels. According to Michelle McGuire, associate professor at Washington State University, “Whole milk is not the villain!”
In addition to the dairy items you would expect, we offer an item you don’t find just everywhere; pasteurized, non-homogenized cream-top milk, which is a hands-down favorite of our guests and our regular customers as well. We are also the only dairy in the state that makes our own butter.
We choose to deliver our milk items in recyclable glass bottles for several reasons:
milk tastes better in glass,
glass is better for the environment, and because it is nostalgic. Many older people enjoy our items because it reminds them of their growing-up days when milk in glass bottles was the norm"
