Old99Farm Market:  Old99 Farm, Week of Aug1 2015

Had a computer power failure so am writing remotely now.
We can add several varieties of tomatoes this week, in addition to the bounty I posted last week.
Lamb on special: leg roasts, shoulder chops and loin chops, 25% off. That’s about $7/kg off loin chops.

Healthy eating
Ian and Cami.

Martin's Farmstand:  Pesto and Pickles

It is time to get cucumbers and pickles for your canning needs. The next couple of weeks are the peak cucumber season.

It is the best time to get bulk basil for pesto etc now while the nights are warm.. Basil is a heat loving plant and is at its best now. As soon as the nights get cold toward the end of the month or in September it gets a lot more ugly and does not grow much. Beans and dill are also abundant.

Right now we do not have much for tomatoes as the greenhouse crop is slowing sooner than normal because of a whole assortment of stresses from rough weather through the spring that has resulted in a lot of damage from blight and leaf molds.(not late blight) The outside tomato crop looks lovely and we should have lots of tomatoes again fairly soon. Daniel

Gwinnett Locally Grown:  The Market is open for ordering. Salmon is here!

The Market is open Thursday at 9 – Monday at noon After that, ordering is disabled until Thursday morning. Pick up your order Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. only at Rancho Alegre Farm at 2225 Givens Road, Dacula, GA 30019. New to The Market? Learn about how it works here.

Salmon Update!

The Salmon is Available for Ordering!

Good morning. The salmon is now on the Market! We have sent an email to those who wanted on the list as first priority so we will be watching for those folks to order first. You may continue to order after the first week until the supply runs out.* I’m being told that there may be a chance for a second catch to be added but not guaranteed yet. So if you are wanting salmon, I recommend purchasing while you have the chance.
This deliciously fresh salmon is carefully selected directly from the fishermen’s nets from the cold Alaskan waters before it ever enters the ship’s hold. Only the best is chosen to become part of " Running Wild Alaskan Seafood’s" premium offerings. The fish is immediately bled and iced down before making the short boat ride to the processor located in Homer, Alaska. Here it is quickly processed and flash frozen (to ensure freshness) then packed into coolers for the overnight trip to Georgia. This is the freshest salmon available without going to Alaska to catch it yourself. Red Sockeye salmon is packed with flavor and nutrition.
The packages will be in a couple different ounce packages and range in prices based on $19.00 a pound.

See you Tuesday!
